Appendix III - Running Evince in 64-bit mode

The analysis of large data sets can benefit tremendously from running Evince in 64-bit mode. Evince can only use approximately 1.3 GB of RAM (random access memory) running in 32-bit mode. This is regardless of how much RAM the computer has installed or how much virtual memory the system has. The practical limit in 64-bit mode is decided by the total amount of RAM of the computer. If the computer has 8GB of RAM this means Evince can use close to 8GB before the system starts using virtual memory.

Make sure you computer is updated to the latest Java version. If you are running a 64-bit system, install the 64-bit version of Java 8 to enable Evince to access all the memory (RAM) installed on your computer. You can download the latest 64-bit Java version from:
