| Plot Layers |
Evince can keep plotted
objects in different layers. The settings
of objects belonging to a certain layer are changed independently of other layers.
By default, a main layer will always be created from the start. Sub-layers can
then be created from the main layer.
There are buttons for creating new main layers, removing layers and renaming
layers. The order of the layers can be changed by using the "up" and
"down" buttons. The order impacts how objects are rendered in the
plot. If two objects from two different layers overlap, the object
from the top layer will be visible. Only one layer can be active at the same
time. The active layer is selected with blue background as shown below.

It is important to understand that chosen plot settings will only be applied to the selected main- or sub-layer. Please note that if settings for a main layer is changed, these settings will be applied to the sub-layers of the main layer as well. It is possible to hide a certain layer by unchecking the box next to it. Checking the box again will return the layer to visibility.

A new layer can be created in the following ways:

Please note that adding a layer with the "Create New Main Layer" button or by dragging a matrix to the layer area will create a new main layer. Moving the selection into a new layer will instead create a new sub-layer.
Further functionality can
be accessed by right-clicking on a layer. For example, it is possible to create
new sub-layers from classes.

Options:
- Select All Points from Layer: Selects all data points from the active layer.
- Move Selection into Layer: Moves the selected data points to the active layer.
- Move Selection into New Layer: Moves the selected data points into a new sub-layer of the main layer.
- Delete: Removes the layer
- Rename: Renames the layer.
- Create Sub-layers from: Creates new sub-layers from the chosen category.
- Apply Settings from Layer: Retrieves plot settings from another main- or sub-layer and applies them to the selected sub-layer in the active plot. It is possible to choose settings from another plot or another layer within the same plot.
