New Variable

A new variable may be useful for adding a Y-variable (or X) to the DataSet. A new variable can be added by right-clicking on the DataSet table (showing selected observations) and selecting "New variable" from Modifications. It can also be done by selecting observations in a plot and choosing Add selected to / New variable from the plot menu.

A dialog will appear where the user can enter information about the variable. The user of Evince must fill the name of the new variable and also the value of the variable for the selected observations. Finally, the user must choose if the variable is belonging to X or Y.

The added variable will appear at the bottom of the DataSet table viewing the variables.

Being a modification for observations, the variable will also appear as a column in the DataSet table viewing the observations. If a certain observation has a set value, it will appear in the table. Observations with no set values will have "MV" (short for missing value) appearing in the table.

Further values can be set by selecting new observations in a plot and choosing "Set value" for the created new variable. It is also possible to clear values here. These actions are also possible to perform from the DataSet.
